Mapping Mode

Last updated: April 22, 2026

In the Cork Vantage platform, correctly mapping clients and assets is extremely important. Mapping these together creates Cork Clients and Cork Assets (learn more in 📄 Fundamentals). To help you manage the mapping of Cork Clients, Vantage offers two mapping modes, automatic and suggestion.

Mappings are re-evaluated after each integration sync to account for changes in client names, assets, or identifiers.

Note: Device and inbox mapping is always automatic in both modes. Mapping mode only affects client-level mapping.

Automatic

In automatic mode, Cork Vantage maps integration-level clients together that have not been merged manually on your behalf.

The mapping algorithm considers:

  • Client name similarity

  • Device and inbox overlap across integrations

  • Hidden status (see note below for hidden impact in mapping)

After each integration connection or resync, mappings are re-assessed and updated automatically.

If a mapping is incorrect, you can manually adjust client mappings at any time by modifying a client's or asset's merge (follow this guide for help 📄 Merge Clients). Clients and assets that have been manually adjusted will not be automatically re-mapped.

Suggestion

In suggestion mode, Cork Vantage generates mapping suggestions for clients, but does not apply them automatically.

Suggestions appear when:

  • An unmapped client likely matches an existing Cork Client

  • A mapped client may belong to a different Cork Client

Suggestions must be manually reviewed and can be accepted or rejected.

When onboarding new clients or integrating for the first time in suggestion mode, clients must first be promoted to Cork Clients before mapping suggestions can be generated. This can be done from the Integration Mapping view on the Integrations page.

In both modes, integration-level clients are separated based on their hidden status.

Hidden clients are excluded from mapping and are not considered by the mapping algorithm. If you don't want certain clients to be considered during the mapping process, you can unmap and hide them from the Clients page or Integration Mapping slideover.

Suggestion Types

From the Mapping tab of the Clients page in Vantage, there are 3 different types of suggestions you may see:

Merge

A merge suggestion will happen when there are integration-clients that are suggested to merge into the Cork Client you're currently viewing. After expanding a Cork Client to view its integration-clients, these suggestions will appear at the bottom.

Map-Into

Map-into suggestions are for integration-clients that are currently mapped, but the Vantage mapping algorithm thinks they should be mapped to a different Cork Client.

Unmerge

An unmerge suggestion will appear for any integration-client that is currently mapped where the Vantage mapping algorithm would decide it should be mapped somewhere else, but a Cork Client to map it to does not yet exist.

Cork Assets

In both mapping modes, asset-level (device and inbox) remediation occurs after every integration sync. Cork will auto-map your devices and inboxes together based on the identifying criteria below.

Devices

  • Serial Number

  • MAC Address

  • Hostname + Internal IP Address

Matching devices are clustered together to form a Cork Device.

Inboxes

  • Email address

  • Email aliases

Matching inboxes are clustered together to form a Cork Inbox.

Similar to client mapping in automatic mode, these mappings can be manually adjusted via a client's details page (📄 Merge Endpoints).

Once manually adjusted, these mappings will not be automatically changed, though suggestions may be created if discrepancies caught by the Cork mapping algorithm.
